Partners of the Expedition

With their support the expedition has been able to proceed safely, responsibly and with a modicum of comfort. Please click on their logos to find out more about these extraordinary companies that have assisted the expedition with its goals because of their outstanding products and services.

BP
The uninitiated may wonder what an expedition that aims to travel around the world by bicycle might be doing with BP. The company's belief and commitment to energy solutions “beyond petroleum” is not only commendable, but is also necessary. There are many people I worked with in BP that I would like to thank for their support: Nic Seuren, Penny Ainsley, Simon Leech, Neal Taylor, Jean Posbic, Ralston Skinner, Tim Chadwick, Pat Moran, Andy Knight, Ashley Thomas, John Shepherd, Tony Raxach, Louis Bernard, Victor Luis, and Tony Appiah. They are but a few that have been instrumental in making this expedition happen with BP's help.

Brunton
The Brunton Company has been in existence since 1894 and been making advanced and innovative instruments for professionals, outdoor enthusiasts and sportspeople ever since. Their motto says it all really: “360 degrees of Adventure”. Their Nova Optimus multi-fuel expedition stove is the best camp stove I've ever seen or had the pleasure to use (honestly). The Brunton MNS GPS receiver is also unique and is a real asset to have with the expedition. Click the link, have a look around, be surprised, buy, use and be impressed. Very special thanks goes out to John Smithbaker.

Zoom Airlines
When the road ran out and there was water to cross, I had a very tough time getting to the next landfall to continue cycling. With Zoom Airlines, crossing an ocean has never been so simple. Connecting Canada with Europe, the low cost airline has added flights servicing Halifax and Glasgow; two cities on opposite sides of the Atlantic now connected by air. The roads of Canada are now connected with the UK. David and Zoom Airlines to the rescue!

Cat Eye Electronics
A company with a long association with cycling, Cat Eye Electronics create devices synonymous with riding a bicycle safely, regardless if it's across town or around the world. They make the best bicycle computers and lighting systems. The HB-100 cycle computer has tracked my heart rate cycling over 5,000m in altitude as I climbed higher and counted calories as I went. Their HL-EL400 headlight and TL-LD600 tail light should be attached to every bicycle. Domo Arigato, Saho-san, Mitsu-san and Kasho-san.

Nielsen Kellerman
Nielsen-Kellerman are designers and manufacturers of innovative waterproof electronics, like the fantastic Kestrel 4000. This handheld weather tracker has been enormously useful in granting me a better understanding of local environmental conditions. It was indispensable when sailing and is in daily use on the road. Kudos to Nielsen Kellerman for creating a remarkable device and to Amy Winner who has helped make the Kestrel 4000 an integral part of the expedition kit.

Schwalbe
You would not believe how well Schwalbe tyres perform (until you try them for yourself). Trusted and relied upon by expedition cyclists the world over - and I do mean around the world too. The workhorse of their Touring range, Marathon, is fantastic. How can I be so enthusiastic about bicycle tyres? I have cycled over 20,000km with Marathon tyres and suffered less than 10 punctures. Also consider their ability to grip, roll and ride over the worst terrain you can think of while carrying your (heavy) worldly possessions. Try them. You'll understand. Many many thanks to Carsten Zahn for the education.

Ryders Eye Wear
Ryders Eyewear ensure I can see the road ahead in perfect clarity. Blocking glare, UV A and B rays, wind, dust and insects I can ride safely, healthily and comfortably with my Swerves wrapped over my eyes. In low light or even when riding in the dark, my vision is still protected from stinging foreign particles as the lenses are interchangeable from tints to clear. Big ups to Suzanne.
